SPECIALSCOTS is a small, but select, kennel located in extreme Northwest Tennessee near the Missouri Bootheel, where I've been breeding and exhibiting Scottish Terriers since 1990. Although I try to breed to the standard and compete in conformation showing, temperament and health are my FIRST concerns! I strive to produce healthy Scotties who will make wonderful loving pets to share your home with. I occasionally do breed a litter, but I usually have a waitlist for my puppies.
My Scotties have competed successfully in conformation shows, and most are finished AKC champions. I had the top Scottie in the US for two years in obedience, and although she has now passed on, I CONTINUE to use my girls Maggie and Stevie to help to educate the public about responsible pet ownership, and I try to teach students how to be safe around dogs...all this by "entertaining" at the local elementary schools.
I am an active member of the STCA (Scottish Terrier of America), and I am serving in the capacity of Breeder Referral and Public Information Chairperson for the national club.. I am a member of the JTDFA (Jackson Tennessee Dog Fanciers Association. Not only am I a charter member, but I have served as President of the JTDFA, and I have been on the Board of Directors and Program Chairman. I compete in their May shows whenever I can.
All my Specialscots have been shown in Conformation, and some are now serving as Therapy and Hospice dogs (Jade), competing in the Agility ring (Reese), competed in Obedience (Cinder), and now I am preparing to train for Rally. I believe that pretty dogs (bred to the standard) should ALSO be able to PERFORM and exhibit the correct temperament to do so!
I am also active in National and State Scottie Rescue, and I also am an avid supporter of our local Dyer Co. Humane Society. I assist in fundraisers for ALL these causes. I have (in the past) taught obedience classes in this area for a number of years, and have instructed approximately 300 plus dogs of ALL breeds and backgrounds along with their owners! I promote Canine Good Citizenship on all levels, and many of my former students have competed very successfully in the Obedience rings as well.
My favorite friends (who are related to me by dog) are Steve and Laurie Goldman of Normac Welsh Terriers. They are currently handling, grooming, and loving my girl Specialscots Pay It Forward (Haley). They have, and continue to, support me in all my endeavors with the Specialscots.
